About Viva Tejana Dance Company

Viva Tejana Dance Company (VTDC) is a ladies dance company based in San Antonio, Texas. Founded by Sophia Salgado in 2020, the team performs to Tejano, Conjunto, Chicano, and other genres of music. The team started as a group of 6 practicing in Sophia’s living room, but has now grown into a troupe of over 40 dancers.

VTDC welcomes people of all dance skills ages 18 and up to join as a dancer. We take tremendous pride in showcasing Tejano heritage and cultura.

VTDC performs at a wide array of public and private events. From corporate parties to rehabilitation centers, VTDC loves to bring the dance fun!

The mission of Viva Tejana Dance company is to educate, inspire, and entertain audiences with the music that they grew up with and love.

About Sophia Salgado

Director and Founder of VTDC

Sophia Salgado is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. She began dancing at the age of five in Spearman, Texas.

She is the founder of Viva Tejana Dance Company, and the author of the critical essay, “Dynamics of Movement: Tejana Representation and Inclusion in the Dance Community” published in the anthology Somos Tejanas - Chicana Identity and Culture in Texas, available here.
